QUEENSLAND VETERANS CRICKET
In 2008 the first steps to establish Over 60’s Cricket in Queensland were taken when Lew Cooper, now QVC Patron and Kevin Finlay his NSW colleague hatched a plan to contest an annual Over 60’s Cricket Challenge.
As cricket tragics each of them mustered a team of over 60’s players and they met and played the first match at Tenterfield just over the border in Blues territory. It resulted in a resounding Qld victory and the Cooper Finlay Cup accompanied them back to Brisbane.
It has been played annually each March and 2017 will mark the 10th anniversary. Such is its popularity that each State is expected to field 8 teams including 6 over 60’s and 2 over 70’s when they meet in 2017 at Redlands Cricket Club in Queensland.
Each year QVC teams trek to the National Championships with six teams making the journey to Perth for the 2016 Championships. Qld played in all five finals winning three National Championships.
