Regional Competition – 2016.

The Division 1 Competition is moving towards its final stages with Lockyer undefeated to date. They will face stiff competition in their remaining matches from Redlands and Brisbane. Brisbane and Sunshine Coast are just a win away from the leaders and they will need to put up their best performances if they are to get to play off in the top game at the finals. Redlands, Wide Bay and Gold Coast still have plenty to play for and upsets are on the cards as they strive for points in the remaining matches.

Sunshine Coast, sitting on 8 points are undefeated in Division 2 with 2 complete rounds to play till the finals plus a rained out match between Brisbane and Gold Coast. Lockyer, Gold Coast and Brisbane will be doing all in their power to try to make it into the final.

Good luck to all teams in your endeavours to make it to the top of the table for the finals.

Australian Over 60’s players will get the chance to play for their country against a touring UK Over 60’s touring team just after the Perth Nationals in November and December. They will play 3 ODI’s in Canberra 27 Nov., Melbourne 04 Dec. and Adelaide 15 Dec. Some Qld players have been invited to nominate for selection in these matches. Selected players will be notified in mid – late August. Best wishes to those who nominated.

Cooper Finlay – March 2017

In 2017 the Cooper Finlay Cup will be hosted by the Redlands Cricket Club and we will be playing on turf wickets in that area. It has been suggested to NSW that Qld would like to invite NSW to send 6 x Over 60’s and 2 x Over 70’s to this event. Rob Gilbert has a sub-committee in place to run the event and I am confident that we will have a great series. It’s time for a maroon victory!!!

Thank you.

I wish to extend my thanks to the many Queensland players, partners and supporters who sent messages of congratulations to me following the award of an Order of Australia Medal in the recent Queens Birthday Honours. Your kind words are appreciated.

Good cricketing
